About Us
Founded in the 1980s by a duo of passionate golfers, the Challengers Golf Club set out with the goal of creating a men’s club to enjoy golfing at various courses throughout Ventura County. Initially, the club maintained a rather strict and exclusive atmosphere. However, over the years, successive presidents have fostered a more welcoming and inclusive environment, transforming the club into the diverse and friendly community it is today.
What truly sets the Challengers Golf Club apart from other men’s clubs is our commitment to fostering camaraderie and discouraging cliques. Unlike many clubs where members often play in the same groups, we ensure that everyone gets the chance to play with different members nearly every round. Our “bag men” arrange the foursomes, mixing them up each time to promote interaction among all members.
Our members come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Most members are retired from many different professions and work experiences.
Some have played golf for many years while others have recently taken up the sport. We not only enjoy the golf, we also enjoy each other’s company including getting together after the round to socialize and award prizes for the day’s golf.
We gather for rounds every Tuesday and Thursday morning, playing at several different courses across Ventura County. Additionally, we host two special outings each year, one in the Spring and one in the Fall, at premier courses such as the Alisal in Solvang and Sandpiper in Santa Barbara.
Our club operates without monthly dues; instead, members contribute $5 each round they play (with the winning group of that round keeping their $5). The collected funds help offset the costs of our outings. The more frequently you play throughout the year, the less you contribute towards the outing expenses.
